Unfortunately Wordpress.com has tighter restrictions than Edublogs so Edublogs users are able to embed more into their sidebars and posts (almost all embed code). Sorry I wasn't able to help you :( But you aren't wasting your time - investigating all the technology is very important part of working out how to use it with your students.
