Next Steps . . . Maybe? Am I making progress?
December 6, 2008So . . .
I started a blog — like thousands of people do each and every day. And before I even get my second post, I know I am learning but very possibly over my head. I started looking for all the other things (sorry, “things” is much too generic, it should be “emerging media tools”) I need to start, to learn, to use . . . and I got overwhelmed. My list was too long. I couldn’t see the forest for the trees. I didn’t know where to start nor how to start.
You’ll note that the first post was several weeks ago. I am not a regular contributor or writer (“blogger” — I know) yet. That is one of my first lessons about the many emerging media — they take time, a committment.
There is some correction here, too. It is not just time needed. We spend our time on what is most important to us whether or not it is really important. Sounds like “time management” doesn’t it? How does this fit in with my learning emerging media? Well, even if I like it and think it is really cool and want to know it . . . I need to make it ‘important’ to me. I need to see the relevance of these applications. I need to see how my time use is actually a worthwhile investment or help. That is so much of what I will be learning (hopefully).
So when people say that some thing (sorry, again . . . “some tool, software, equipment, application, or link” — ok?) is just another way for people to waste their time, they are probably saying that they do not see the need or relevance to themselves. They do not see the potential of that particular tool. They do not use their imagination or creativity to discover how it could benefit them, their company, their job.
or, they see people wasting their time . . . hmmmm.
Welcome to the blogosphere!
I look forward to learning with you.
